Pets

Depending on the situation and the type of animal you see, you have several options:

• To report any wild animal that is injured, ill or behaving unusually, please contact the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs at 1-877-346-6763 or the Bureau de la protection de la faune de la Montérégie at 450-776-7131.
• If you witness poaching or suspicious fishing or hunting activity, you can contact SOS poaching at 1-800-463-2191.
• To report a roadkill or forest kill, call 1-800-463-2191.
• If you capture a stray cat or dog, please contact the Town of Brome Lake at 450-243-6111.

Number of pets allowed:

• A total of five per urban dwelling or house, with a maximum of two dogs and three cats. This five-animal limit does not apply to caged fish or birds.
• If your dog or cat has a litter, you are allowed to keep the puppies or kittens for a period of three months from their birth. This is an exception to the rule.
• On farms, kennels (four or more adult dogs) may be permitted under certain strict conditions.

Mandatory: All the dogs of more than three months residing on the territory of Brome Lake have to wear their medal with their registration number at all time. The owner has to pay a fee of $35/year to the SPA des Cantons, either online, by phone or in person.

Exceptions: The medal is not mandatory for dogs that you are boarding in a kennel, an animal hospital, a veterinary clinic or an animal rescue facility.

If you lose your pet on the Brome Lake territory, here are a few tips to help you find it:

• Post signs in places like grocery stores, hardware stores, veterinary clinics and groomers with a photo and description of your pet, where it was lost and, if found, who to contact with a valid phone number.
• Inform your neighbours and leave a bowl of food and water outside the house.
• You can also post an ad on Petluck.ca and other local Facebook groups, or on a website for lost pets.

The organization mandated to apply the regulations on the territory is:
