Dial 9-1-1 who will send you emergency services as soon as possible. In TBL region, as the territory is large, we have First Responders who often arrive before ambulance or police officers.

Construction Permit

Before you begin your work, you must obtain a building or demolition permit. It is better to ask for it as soon as possible to avoid delays. If you need construction materials, you will find them in the Knowlton area at Home Hardware or Rona, both on Knowlton Road.

Obtaining a permit

Waste collection, compost and recycling

It is done in black (or green) bins for waste, brown bins for compost and blue bins for recyclable materials. Information and dates of collections in your area.

Ecocentres

You can dispose of your bulky objects, hazardous materials and construction residues in one of the Brome-Missisquoi MRC ecocentres. Visit the Ecocentres page to find out what you can bring to the Ecocentre and to know the opening days and hours of the centers.

Douglass Beach Parking Permit

TBL residents can purchase a parking pass at a cost of $ 5 per year. This allows you to park at Douglass Beach and Tiffany Park during the summer without having to pay the daily fee. You can obtain it at the Town Hall by presenting a proof of residence.

Dogs

If you have a dog, you must purchase a license for $ 10 per year. This is available at Town Hall. See also the regulations on pets. In addition, if you are going away for a few days or weeks and you need dogsitting, there are several places that offer this service on the territory including Chenil Lac-Brome and Super Puppy Education.

Schools and Daycares

Daycare

Do you have a preschool child? TBL has two Early Childhood Centers: Les Petits Trésors du Lac and CPE La Passerelle des Mousses. There are also many family day care centers administrated by Les Pommettes rouges.

Schools

There are two elementary schools located in Knowlton sector and one secondary school in the Town of Cowansville:

École St-Édouard, which is francophone.

Knowlton Academy, which is the English primary school.

Massey-Vanier Public High School is located in the Town of Cowansville and students can get there by school bus.

Health and social services

Located at 270 Victoria Street in the Knowlton sector, the Centre Lac-Brome includes:

CLSC Lac-Brome (CIUSSS de l'Estrie - CHUS)

Offers blood sampling services by appointment.

Brome-Missisquoi Medical Clinic

Upon your arrival, register to the online waiting list to get a family doctor. Depending on your medical condition and several other criterias, it may take several months before you are assigned to a doctor. Meanwhile, if you need to see a doctor or a nurse you can go to the walk-in clinic. For information about the services offered and the hours of operation of the clinic, contact (450) 243-5043.

Pettes Library

Brome Lake residents can register for free by showing proof of residence. The private library offers books, CDs and magazines in French and English.

Theatre de Lac-Brome

The Theatre de Lac-Brome offers bilingual programming throughout the year. It is located on Mont-Écho Road.
