The Town of Brome Lake is implementing a new procedure for the implementation of traffic control measures. These requests can be made for all road users, regardless of the means of transportation used. It is also possible to make any other request related to the mobility of people on the territory of Brome Lake.

A request must be completed by a minimum of one resident 18 years of age or older. It is recommended that signatures of support be collected in the surrounding area to improve the public consultation process.

This procedure allows for a uniform and transparent approach to the requests. The main objectives are:

  • To establish a consistent process for handling a traffic control application
  • To develop and design safer and more peaceful living environments for citizens
  • To ensure effective traffic management
PROCESSING OF A REQUEST

Traffic requests are processed by the Town of Brome Lake, which will analyze its eligibility and will proceed with the study according to several criteria, including:

  • Type of street;
  • Measured speed;
  • Recorded traffic volumes;
  • Presence of vulnerable clientele (school, park, daycare, nursing home, etc.);
  • Road geometry.

The citizen is then informed of the results of the study, which can lead to three possible conclusions, namely

  • The site does not require any intervention;
  • Awareness interventions are required:
    • Information to citizens;
    • Awareness campaign;
    • Educational actions;
    • Police surveillance;
  • Physical traffic calming measures are required.
