Do you like teaching, sharing your passion for swimming and all while paying attention to safety? Have a memorable summer by the water as a swim instructor at Douglass Beach!

Under the supervision of the Beach Coordinators, the Swim Instructor teaches basic swimming skills to small groups of children. In addition, the position includes blocks of time where your responsibilities are as lifeguard for public swimming at the beach.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach basic swimming skills to groups of children, while promoting their confidence in the water.
• Adapt the courses to the different levels of the participants to ensure their progress.
• Monitor swimmers and intervene in emergencies to ensure their safety.
• Apply the beach regulations and ensure that they are respected by users.
• Inspect and maintain lifesaving and teaching equipment.
• Perform site maintenance tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Participate in training and retraining organized by the Town.
• Report any incidents or problems to the Beach Coordinator.
• Perform any other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

• Hold a Red Cross Swim Instructor Certificate and a National Lifeguard – Inland Beach certificate in good standing.
• Be able to communicate effectively in French and English.
• Demonstrate patience, excellent teaching skills and a good sense of responsibility.

Work Schedule

8-week position, full-time (35-40 hours/week), Monday to Sunday on a variable schedule, from the end of June to mid-August.

Hourly wage of :

• National Pool Lifeguard: $21.94 
• National Beach Lifeguard: $22.71
• Instructor : $23.66
