Day Camp Counselor - Integration

Are you patient, organized and passionate about including children with special challenges? This position is a unique opportunity to put your skills to good use while enjoying a rewarding and dynamic summer!

Under the supervision of the camp coordinator, day camp counsellors – integration, will work directly with children with special needs to ensure their inclusion, safety and development in day camp activities.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in training sessions and meetings before and during camp.
  • Meet with children with special challenges and their parents before the camp begins, to fully understand their needs.
  • Plan and/or develop tools to facilitate the integration of children under your responsibility.
  • Regularly communicate all relevant information to parents of children under your responsibility.
  • Support and guide animators in their work with children with special needs.
  • Ensure the safety, well-being and integration of children throughout activities.
  • Report any particular incident to the immediate superior.
  • Carry out all other related tasks to contribute to the good operation of the camp.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in French and English.
  • Experience or interest in working with children with special needs (an asset).
  • Training or an interest in special needs integration or intervention (an asset).
  • Patient, empathetic and able to adapt to a variety of situations.
  • First aid certification (an asset).

Employment Conditions

  • 8-week full-time position (35-40 hours/week), Monday to Friday, from late June to mid-August.
  • Salary: $17.82 per hour
