Services for Seniors in Town of Brome Lake

The Wellness Volunteer Centre has been active in Town of Brome Lake for over 25 years. Their devoted service has improved the quality of life of many local seniors, and we encourage you to find out more about everything they offer.

Volunteer Drivers
The Wellness Volunteer Centre provides a volunteer driving service for seniors in Town of Brome Lake. Whether it is for a hair appointment locally or for a medical appointment at the hospital in Montreal or Sherbrooke, our friendly, vetted drivers will get you there on time and bring you home safely afterwards.

How to book transportation

Please call 450-242-2020 at least 2 days before your appointment. The receptionist will ask you for:

  • your name, address and phone number
  • the date, time and place of your appointment
  • how long your appointment is likely to take

We will call you back to confirm that we have a driver for you. Please note that we have a very dedicated group of drivers who do their best to help everyone, but we cannot guarantee to find you transportation every time. If we are not able to find a driver, we will call you to let you know so you can make other arrangements.

Costs

Volunteers are not paid, but you will be charged a fee to cover gas and expenses. The amount will depend on the distance you travel. Please ask the receptionist when you call. You are responsible for paying any parking fees. If your appointment lasts all day, we ask you to cover the cost of a light lunch for your driver (maximum of $10). If you are undergoing cancer treatment or dialysis, there may be some financial help to cover the cost  of travel to and from medical appointments. Please contact the CLSC for more information at 450-266-4342, option 2.

Meals on Wheels
Meals-on-Wheels are good, hot meals delivered to your door by local volunteers. The service is available either on a short-term basis while you recover from illness or surgery, or on a longer-term basis to make it easier for you to stay in your own home.  Arrangements can be made for special diets.

How to get Meals-on-Wheels

Please call 450-242-2020. The receptionist will ask you for your name and phone number. A volunteer from the Wellness Centre will then call you back to make arrangements.

Cost

There is a small charge for each meal. Please ask for more information when you speak with the Wellness volunteer.

Emergency Alert
These are panic buttons which you can wear around your neck or wrist. Just press the button and a special unit on your telephone will call for help. You can choose up to four contact numbers for your system, including ambulance or police, family and friends.

How to Get an Emergency Alert System

Please call 450-242-2020. The receptionist will ask you for your name and phone number. A volunteer from the Wellness Centre will then call you back to make arrangements.
